Multi-layer laminated glass consists of more than two glass layers, bonded with various types of PVB interlayers, and is particularly preferred in projects requiring extreme security and for walk-on applications. To prevent spontaneous breakages caused by nickel sulfide (NiS), Alcam uses Heat Soak Tested (HST) glass or recommends the use of semi-tempered glass for these applications.

ALCAM’s Experience and Expertise on Laminated Glass

The production of multi-layer laminated glass involves stacking two or more layers of glass with PVB (Polyvinyl Butyral) or SentryGlasXtra (SGX) interlayers between them, depending on the required performance. These layers are bonded together under high heat and pressure in autoclave furnaces. The process is carefully controlled in Alcam’s climate-controlled lamination line, where temperature and humidity are consistently monitored. Multi-layer laminates are specifically designed to provide additional strength, durability, and enhanced safety, making them ideal for extreme applications. To further ensure reliability, Heat Soak Testing (HST) is performed to reduce the risk of spontaneous breakage.

  • High-Security Projects: Used in government buildings, banks, embassies, and military facilities where maximum protection is required.
  • Bullet-Resistant Glass: Multi-layer laminates are ideal for applications requiring bulletproof solutions.
  • Walkable Glass Floors: Used in areas where the glass will be walked on, such as bridges, observation decks, or architectural designs.
  • Glass Railings: Providing both strength and transparency in high-traffic areas like commercial centers and public spaces.
  • Façades and Skylights: For large glass installations requiring both structural integrity and enhanced security features.
  • Storm and Impact Resistant Glass: Suitable for areas prone to natural disasters or needing high-impact resistance.
  • Balconies and Terraces: Offering clear views and high safety levels in architectural designs.
  • Prisons and Detention Facilities: Where maximum durability and security are required to prevent breakouts or external attacks.
